Now that we are really getting in to the semester, and have received both funding (Thank you Auburn University Campus Safety!) and finished the proposal process, I wanted to update everyone with what changes have been going on - and what to expect - from our website!
Here in this blog, I intend to give our readers a more in-depth glance in to my journey, and the groups journey, in to making this website, what what are objectives really are. So let's get down to business!
Recent Updates (As of 9/24):
Let's start at the beginning. We weighed our options on websites, and since Wix is both free (yay) and relatively simply, we determined this was the best path to move forward, at least initially. Some considerations besides value were abilities (Does it support any programming language or scripts? Can I embed what I need to? Can I lock down pages?), its speed (Will people get frustrated waiting for our site to load?), and its reliability and ease of use (Can I do what I need to when I need to?).
Next, I started with a basic template in WixADI. WixADI allows for a much faster process for creating a professional looking website, but does not allow for things like scripts, limiting pages or password protection, and some other key things our project needs. However, migration from WixADI to Wix (and importantly, Corvid - we will get to that at some point later on) is not only possible but easily done. As of today, everything you see on the site is based on WixADI.
We have a blog (Where you are right now!), we have a forum (drop by and ask a question!), we have a beautiful main page, and...
We don't have the much needed password locked pages with integration for our hardware. So now that you know where we stand today, let's check out the future!
Future Updates:
As I previously mentioned above, one of the next big changes to our website is our migration from WixADI to Wix Advanced Editor. In the next month or so, all main website pages will be more or less finished, at least to an extent. This will allow our changes in the advanced editor to be faster, smoother, and look more cohesive.
The migration to Wix Advanced Editor will allow integration of Corvid by Wix. Corvid is a Wix serverless development platform to build web applications in a Wix website. This will allow us to create buttons or interact-able website parts that will allow users like you to interact with Maxwell. We will talk about the exact method of this interaction in a later post.
Another important advancement that will result from our migration past WixADI is that I can assign pages to be visible to only certain users. This will allow us to have a webpage act as a GUI directly for Maxwell that no one else can view or edit. This assures us maximum integration of our website and Maxwell, and makes the GUI not only simple, but easily serviceable.
